Founder Doug Pollock
Founder and Director of Pilates Studio Locust
Valley, Inc, Doug Pollock opened the first Pilates Studio on Long Island in
1995. He holds a B.S. Degree in Physical Therapy from
the University of Buffalo and a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from New
York University.
Doug was a Senior Physical
Therapist at the famed Rusk Institute at NYU Medical Center and the Chief
Physical Therapist at Downstate Medical Center. He opened his private
practice, Marathon Physical Therapy in 1980, which eventually grew to three
practice locations.
In the late 1970’s, Doug was
greatly influenced by Dr. Kenneth Cooper’s work on the benefits of
cardiopulmonary fitness and aerobic training. He continues his interest in
aerobics as well as weight training, calisthenics, and flexibility exercise.
Romana Kryzanowska, Master Pilates
Teacher (renowned protégé of Joseph Pilates) became his mentor in 1994.
Doug experienced the direct benefits of Pilates as a client of Pilates Studio,
Inc. in New York City. He became certified in the Pilates Method by Romana
Kryzanowska in 1995. He has the additional distinction of achieving the Gold
Level Certification by the Pilates Method Alliance, the national leader in the
Pilates Movement.
